Cecil Andrew Bensend passed away March 11, 1974, at the age of 74 years. He was born January 12, 1900, at Turtle Lake, Wisconsin, and was the only son of Gustove Bensend and Nellie Bensend Minnis. He attended rural school and graduated from high school in Turtle Lake, Wisconsin.
He married Nina Foster November 12, 1924. They farmed in Mitchell County, retiring to Riceville. He is survived by his wife, Nina: one daughter, Mrs. Glen (Virginia) Knode, LeRoy, Minn.; and four sons, Bob of Osage, Ia.; Russell of Riceville, Ia.; Dale of Lyle, Minn.; Marvin of Atkins, Ia.; 18 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; 2 sisters, Mrs. Eva Schramske of St. Paul, Minn. and Mrs. Alfred (Pearl) Steiert of Osage, Iowa; a step-brother, Everett Minnis of Genoa City, Wisconsin; several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were an infant daughter, Delores Jean, his parents, a grand-daughter, Diane Lynn Bensend, and a step-brother, Alvin Minnis.
Funeral services were held March 14, 1974 at 2:00 p.m. at the Chisholm-Lindstrom Funeral Home, with the Reverend John Gilbert officiating. Music was furnished by Mrs. Roy Stark. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Riceville, Ia. Casket bearers included Jerald and Jack Steiert, Roswell Lively, Curt and Lloyd Foster and Duane Lockie.
