John Arp was born March 15, 1901 near Dysart in Homer township, Benton County, Iowa to Julius Edward Arp and Margaretha Elizabeth Jansen. John was the fourth of five children. His silbings were: Henry Peter, Edward William, Elsie Sophia and George.

About 1911, the family moved their possessions by train to a farm Julius had bought at Burr Oak township, Mitchell County, Iowa. John helped with farming. He never married, had no children.

John died November 26, 1938 at Osage, Mitchell, Iowa and was buried at the Osage Cemetery.

Found in the 1910 census living at Homer, Benton, Iowa: Julius Arp 44, Mary Arp 44, Henry Arp 13, Eddie Arp 12, Essie Arp 10, John Arp 9, George Arp 6.

Found in the 1915 - 1930 censuses at Burr Oak, Mitchell, Iowa:
1915: John P Arp age 13.

1920: Julius Arp 54, Mary Arp 54, Henry Arp 23, Edward Arp 21, Elsie Arp 20, John Arp 18, George Arp 15.

1925: Julises Arp 59, Mary Arp 59, Henry Arp 27, Edward Arp 26, John Arp 23, George Arp 20.

1930: Julius Arp 64, Mary Arp 64, Henry Arp 33, George Arp 26, John Arp 29, Ed Arp 32.
