Rant Johnson, 74, died Saturday at 1:10 p.m.., in the lobby of the Burke Hotel where he had lived for a long time. Rant was seemingly in his usual health earlier in the forenoon and had been uptown. However, he slipped and fell and remarked that his head ached.

At 10 a.m. he suffered his first attack of heart disease, and arrangements were made to take him to University Hospital at Iowa City. He was sitting in the lobby, visiting with friends while waiting for the ambulance, when the second and fatal attack came.

Ranson J Johnson was born at Riceville, Ia., July 22, 1882. His parents, James and Mary Johnson, were early settlers in this vicinity. With the exception of a few years spent in Fergus Falls, Minn., his entire life was spent here.

The Rev. William Bohi, who conducted the funeral service, expressed the thoughts of rant's friends when he said, "His sudden departure came as a shock to us all. We can hardly believe that our constant friend is not at hand, as he was so long to greet us with his friendly salutation."

"In His quiet way he won us all. We found him here and there, usually with some mission of kindness and good will. In that way he expressed his faith in both God and man.

In his passing he leaves two sisters, Mrs. Edward Geithman of Parkers Prairie, Minn., and Mrs. Cora Dano of Pequot Lake, Minn., nieces, nephews and many friends His parents and brother, Clarence, preceded him in death.

Funeral service was conducted Monday morning at 10:30 o'clock at the Loper funeral home. Mrs. Duane Lockie sang "in the Garden" and "Beyond the Sunset." Mrs. Roy Stark played the accompaniments. Burial followed in the family lot in Riverside Cemetery. The floral tributes were many and very beautiful.

A nephew and niece attended the last rites – Roy Geithman of Parker Prairie, Minn., and Miss Chloe Johnson, St. Paul, Minn.
