FLOYD BLANDIN SERVICES HELD
Floyd Blandin, 65, a resident of Mayflower Home, died Monday, March 4, at Grinnell General Hospital, where he had been a patient for the past week.
The son of Frank and Nettie Pierce Blandin, he was born Sept. 25, 1888, at Riceville. He attended schools in that community, graduating from high school and, later, a business college in Cedar Rapids.
He was a merchant for a number of years in Riceville and Iowa Falls, and for many years he traveled the state for the H.D. Lee Mercantile Co. of Kansas City, selling work clothing. He had been a resident of Grinnell since 1929 and of the Mayflower Home since 1967.
On April 27, 1910, he was married to Blanche Wilkes at Riceville, and she preceded him in death in 1966. He was later married to Florence Travers, who preceded him in death in 1969. Mr. Blandin was a member of the United Church of Christ-Congregational and a past member of the Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his daughter, Mrs. William (Dorothy) Fonda of Knoxville; three grandchildren, Susan Searle of Minneapolis,Minn., Marilee Henneberger of Hebron, Conn., and Tom Berg, a member of the U.S. Air Force stationed in California; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wives and a son, Carl, who died while on active duty during World War II.
Funeral services for Mr. Blandin were held at 1:30 p.m. today (Thursday) at the Denison Chapel, Mayflower Home, with the Rev. Ralph Beebe and the Rev. Leland Mann officiating. Norman Goodbrod was the pianist.
Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery, with the James-Schalinske Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
