Obituary:

Alda Luane Knight was born July 2, 1949 in Cresco, Iowa the daughter of Alton and Ada (Gay) Knight.

She grew up in Riceville, graduating from Riceville High School. Following high school, Alda attended Taylor University in Upland, Indiana where she majored in English and pre-med. She then attended the University of Iowa where she earned her medical degree, specializing in internal medicine.

Alda served her residency at Broadlawns Hospital in Des Moines. She later worked for the V.A. Hospital in Des Moines before moving to Knoxville in 1983. Alda was united in marriage to Tom Horras and to this union three children were born: Auston, Alexas and Ashlynn.

She was a dedicated mother and physician. Alda opened her children's horizons and gave them every opportunity that life presented. Her patients were a close second to her children; she gave them the utmost in care, compassion and professional guidance.

Alda passed away on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at the Bright Kavanagh House, in Des Moines, at the age of 61 years, 11 months and 27 days.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
Those left to honor her memory include three children: Auston Horras (Karla Overton) of Des Moines, Alexas Swartz (Ryan) of Iowa City and Ashlynn Horras of Olathe, KS; 2 grandchildren, Aiden & Asher Overton-Horras; her sister, Aleda Gaar (Shan) of Cape Coral, FL and her dear friend, Pat Fall of Knoxville.
