Richard Blood, November 18Memorial Services for Richard Blood, 64, of Carpenter, who died Thursday, November 16 in Mason City, were held November 18 at Schroeder and Sites Funeral Home in St. Ansgar with the Rev. Gaylord Grant officiating.
Richard Blood was born July 15, 1925, in Hampton, Iowa, to James E. and Mayme Marie (Ohlerking) Blood.
He attended school in Hampton and Sheffield, Iowa, graduating from Sheffield. He worked in the shipyards in California and entered the United States Navy January 6, 1944 receiving his discharge in April 1946.
On July 21, 1946, he married Helen Allison. They lived in Sheffield until 1957 when they came to St. Ansgar. In 1973 they purchased a home in Carpenter. He was baptized in 1961 by the Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer. The past few years Dick worked as an adjuster for St. Ansgar Mutual Insurance Association. Dick liked to bowl and play cards with friends, but his real love was fishing.
On November 8, 1989 he had a stroke and died on November 16, 1989, in Mason City, Iowa. His body was donated to the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Raymond.
He is survived by his wife, Helen of Carpenter; one son, Steven of Austin, Minnesota; one daughter, Nancy Ackels of Fairbanks, Alaska; one granddaughter, Milissa Ackels; two grandsons, Ryan Ackels and Todd Blood; one brother, James G. Blood of Sheffield; stepmother, Ruth Blood of Sheffield.
