Funeral services for Herman R. Schroeder, 79, who died at his home in Toeterville, Monday, February 11, 1952, were held at St. Peter Lutheran church in Toeterville, February 15, 1952 the Rev. E.C. Meyer officiating.
Herman Reinhold Schroeder, son of the late Mr. William Schroeder and Elrika (nee Lewke), was born in Gross Schlatikow, Pomerania, Germany April 22, 1873. He came to this country in 1875, first to Columbus, Wisconsin, then to Spring Valley, Minnesota and then to Rock Creek township, Iowa. Here he was confirmed by Pastor J.L. Zeilinger on January 9, 1887.
After a few years in Rock Creek the family moved to St. Ansgar township, settling on a farm southwest of Toeterville. Shortly after they united with the St. Peter Lutheran church, and the late Mr. Schroeder served for some thirty years as church secretary and also for a few years as sexton.
He was united in marriage to Miss Emma Feldt on June 23, 1898 with Pastor Joseph Westenberger officiating. They retired from farming in 1945.
Mr. Schroeder died suddenly February 11, 1952 at an age of 78 years, nine months and 19 days. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Lydia Koethke and Mrs. Orville Brandt; also three grandchildren, three cousins in Germany and 21 nephews and nieces. Five children, three brothers, two sisters and one grandchild preceded him in death. Burial was in the St. Peter Lutheran cemetery with Rev. Meyer in charge of committal services.
