Cordella Firsching

STACYVILLE - Cordella Firsching, 91, of Stacyville, died on Wednesday, February 1, 2012, at the Stacyville Nursing Home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 4, at the Visitation Catholic Church, Stacyville, with Fr. Jack McClure, CCPS, officiating. Burial will be in the Visitation Cemetery, Stacyville. Visitation will be after 9 a.m. Saturday at the Church. Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home of St. Ansgar, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.

Cordella was born on May 18, 1920, in Spring Grove, Illinois, to John and Susie (Miller) Miller.

In Spring Grove she married George Firsching on November 27, 1940. They farmed there until 1956, when they moved to Stacyville, Iowa. They farmed there until they moved to town in 1976.

Cordella was active in Christian Mothers and Foresters. She, along with George, were very supportive to all of the town's functions, the church, school, library, Fire Department and nursing home.

She enjoyed fishing, quilting, cards, scrabble, people and the rosary. She loved anything to do with Mother Earth; gardening, yard work and even weeding. She also loved farming, working with her husband side by side. Cordella's greatest joy was her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George; parents, John and Susie Miller; two daughters, Irma and Donna; sister Cecelia Miller.

Cordella is survived by a daughter, Karen (John) Marsh; brother-in-law Joe Firsching of Mason City; sister-in-law Gert Retterath of Austin, Minn., Theresa Ungaro of San Pedro, Calif.; many nieces and nephews.

Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar, is in charge of arrangements; 641-713-4920.
