ST. ANSGAR, IOWA-- Robert M. Kleckner, 81, of St. Ansgar, died Tuesday, July 15, 1997, at Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Osage.
Funeral services will be held Friday at the St. Ansgar Catholic Church, with the Rev. Joseph Schneider and the Rev. John Smith officiating. Burial will be in St. Ansgar Cemetery.
Robert M. Kleckner was born on January 20, 1916, near New Haven, Mitchell county, Iowa.
Survivors include by his wife, Frances Kleckner of St. Ansgar; three sons, Gary Kleckner of Ankeny; Douglas Kleckner of St. Ansgar, and Bruce Kleckner of Fresno, California; three daughters, Sandra Anderson of Antioch, Illinois; Jean White of Fullerton, California, and Carolyn Williams of Austin, Minnesota; 13 grandchildren; three brothers, Maurice Kleckner of St. Ansgar; James Kleckner of Vail, Colorado, and William Kleckner of Stevens Point, Wisconsin; and two sisters, Bernice Paulson of Osage, and Mary Schwalbe of Lake Tahoe, California.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, three brothers and two sisters.
The Champion Funeral Home, Osage, is in charge of arrangements.

#2:Robert M. Kleckner was born January 20, 1916 near New Haven, the son of Ernest J. and Florence (Fox) Kleckner. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, New Haven. He attended rural schools until 1929 when the family moved to St. Ansgar and he graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 1934. He worked at home and for McKinley Farms until 1939.
Robert married Frances Rogers June 1, 1939 and farmed in the Little Cedar area until 1947 and then in Mitchell Township until 1954 when the family moved to St. Ansgar Township. He retired from farming in 1979 and moved to St. Ansgar in 1990. He was a dedicated farmer and believed in conservation practices. His motto was leave the land in better shape than when you obtained it.
Robert served on many boards for the church and county. He was a trustee for St. Ansgar Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus and a 4th degree Knight. He was a member of The Catholic Order of Foresters. He was a Coop oil board member for 35 years and Waterloo Service Company board member for 15 years. Robert served on the Good Samaritan Center board and was a member of the Senior Citizens and a Farm Bureau member since 1939. He and his wife enjoyed many winters in California and Mesa, Arizona.
Robert is survived by his wife, Frances of St. Ansgar; three sons, Gary Kleckner of Ankeny; Douglas Kleckner, St. Ansgar; and Bruce Kleckner and wife Joan of Fresno, California; three daughters, Sandra Anderson and husband Lynn of Antioch, Illinois; Jean White and husband James of Fullerton, California; and Carolyn Williams and husband Kelvin of Austin, Minnesota; 13 grandchildren; three brothers, Maurice Kleckner, St. Ansgar; James Kleckner of Vail, Colorado; William Kleckner, Stevens Point, Wisconsin; two sisters, Bernice Paulson, Osage; Mary Schwalbe of Lake Tahoe, California.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson James Kleckner; three brothers, Adrian, Arnold and Raymond; two sisters, Helen and Patsy.
Burial will be in the St. Ansgar City Cemetery.
