Jerald L. “Jerry” Weldin

January 20, 1934 – February 26, 2011

Jerald L. “Jerry” Weldin age 77 of Connersville passed away Saturday February 26, 2011 at his residence.

He was born January 20, 1934 in Osage, Iowa the youngest of 11 children of the late Erv and Charlotte (Michaelis) Weldin.

He is a graduate of Osage High School and he served his country during the Korean War in the US Army for 3 years, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. Jerry was employed in insurance sales, and at the Fisher Body plant and as a milk man prior to beginning his career with the Connersville Police Department.

He served the citizens of Connersville for 31 years as a police officer. He served as police chief for 12 years during the Collins and Newhouse Administrations.

He retired from the police department in December of 1992. He then served the city for 8 years as Superintendent of Roberts Park. He is a member of the East Side United Methodist Church, the American Legion, the Moose Lodge and the Eagles Lodge. He and his wife were active in the Democrat Party for many years. In his free time he enjoyed fishing.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mayverne Manuel Weldin to whom he was married December 5, 1953. He is also survived by two daughters, Lita Russell, Noblesville; Lori Faber, Connersville; two sons and a daughter in law, David Revalee, Connersville; and John & Jan Weldin, Lafayette; one sister Rose Wieland, Forest City, Iowa; seven grandchildren and two step grandchildren and five great grandchildren and three step great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by six brothers, Glen, Hugh, Chuck, Wayne, Gene and Bill Weldin and three sisters Sadie Larson, Marge Curtis and Charlotte Jones.

Funeral services for Jerry will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday at Urban-Winkler Funeral Home with Rev. Malcolm Greene of the East Side United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Dale Cemetery. Friends may visit at the Funeral Home from 5 to 7 P.M. on Monday.
