Mrs. Lawrence (Elizabeth "Irene") Ballhagen, 80, of 2 Liberty Drive, Osage, died on Sunday, December 11, 1994, at Muse Norris Hospice, Inpatient Unit, Mason City.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday at the United Church of Christ, Osage, with the Rev. W. Griffee officiating. Burial was at Riverside Cemetery, Rockford. Champion Funeral Home, Osage, was in charge of arrangements.
Irene was born at Rockford, Iowa, on October 28, 1914, the daughter of Jess and Jennie (Mathers) Marrs. She was educated in Rockford schools.
Irene married lawrence Ballhagen on January 20, 1930, at Hampton. They lived in Rockford, Manly and Rockwell, moving to Osage in 1973.
She was employed at the Mitchell County Memorial Hospital for nine years, retiring because of health problems.
She was an active member of the Rockwell and Orchard Congregational Churches, the Eastern Star and former Women of the Moose.
She is survived by her husband, Lawrence, of Osage; two sons, Donald Ballhagen of Sheffield and Duane Ballhagen of Rockwell; one daughter, Mrs. Harold (Sandra) Pippert of Mason City; two brothers, Barney Marrs of West Union and Bill Marrs of Neosho, Missouri; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Sharon Kay Cordle; one granddaughter, Brenda Cordle; one great-grandson, Travis Ballhagen; and two brothers, Glenn Marrs and Alvin Marrs.
