Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 29, 1986, at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville for Bertha Hartnell, 93, of Stacyville who died Sunday, April 27 at the Stacyville nursing home. Rev. C. Manternach officiated and burial was in the Visitation Cemetery.

Bertha and her sister operated a restaurant and she was also a homemaker.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Richard (Beverly) Ashton of Austin, Minnesota; one sister, Mrs. Monica Bartholmey of Austin; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

1. She was married to Fred E. Hartnell (1887-1959). See tombstone photo.

2. Bertha (Mauer) Hartnell, born January 6, 1893 in Mitchell Co., Iowa, the daughter of Anton Mauer and Elisabeth (Hackenmiller) Mauer. Her parents are also buried in Visitation.

She married Frederick Eugene Hartnell, the son of William Frederick Hartnell and Abbie (Penney) Hartnell.
