Harold Feuerhelm, 85, a resident of Palm Springs, Calif., died April 17, 2002, in Palm Springs.

He was born Jan. 20, 1917, to Frank L. and Anna B (Klinger) Feuerhelm in Belle Plaine, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Leonard; his sister Frances (Kay) his first wife of 37 years, Betty L. Harrison Feuerhelm; and a son-in-law Alexander Koziolek.

He married Betty F. Hoy in 1985, in Palm Springs, Calif., and lived there for 25 years.
Harold was a retired mortgage banker, having worked for State Bond & Mortgage Company (New Ulm) for 25 years. During his years in Minnesota he was active in The Lions Club, The Chamber of Commerce, The United Way, The United Church of Christ, and he enjoyed fishing and golfing.

He served in the Army from 1942 to 1946 as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne. He continued to serve in the Army Reserves and retired as a Lt. Colonel.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Hoy Feuerhelm of Palm Springs; three daughters, Jennifer Koziolek of Rapid City, S.D., Susan Sandberg of Baxter, and Melissa Feuerhelm Chester (Richard) of San Diego, Calif.; three stepsons, P Kevin Hoy of Foster City, Calif., Peter Hoy of Kameula, Hawaii., and Tim Hoy of La Mesa, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life was held in Palm Springs on April 22, with many family members and friends sharing the life and loves of a man who will be greatly missed. His daughter, Jennifer, sang "Amazing Grace," his favorite hymn. An Army detail played taps and performed the flag-folding ceremony.

Memorials are suggested to The Lions Club Sight and Hearing Bank, or the WW II Memorial in Washington, D.C.
