Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 31, 1987, at the First Baptist Church, Riceville, for Fred V. Hill, 74, of Riceville. Rev. Edgar Francisco officiated, and burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Riceville. Conway Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hill died on Tuesday, January 27, 1987 at the Riceville Community Rest Home.

He was born on March 28, 1912 at Little Cedar, Iowa, the son of Minnie (McPhail) and Fred Hill, Sr. He spent his early childhood in Little Cedar, Stacyville, and Osage where he attended public school. He then attended barber college in Cedar Rapids. He worked in Stacyville, Osage, Cresco, New Hampton and Waterloo before coming to Riceville. In 1934 he bought a barber shop in Riceville, which he operated until he retired in January 1967 die to health reasons.

In 1933, he was united in marriage to Leola Griffin, daughter of Charles and Elsie Griffin.

He was baptized and a lifelong member of the Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, who passed away when Fred was two months old; four brothers: Jay, Clinton, Grand and Stannard; and one sister, Verna Gaines.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, James J. of Northwood and Dr. Donald of San Diego, Calif.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
