Mrs. Edith E. Gardner was born in English Prairie in Burton, township, Illinois, June 16, 1849. She was the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Wray.

She was married to F.H. Robinson December 31, 1888. To this union was born five boys and one girl, only two of whom survive, Mrs. William Aldenderfer, of Englewood, Illinois, and Richard Wray Robinson, of Ralton, New Mexico. F. H. Robinson died July 24, 1892.

She was married to James Gardner of Osage, Iowa, November 5, 1900, and died at Los Angeles, California, on October 5, 1901 where she had gone in company with her husband to spend the winter.

She leaves a brother, Dr. A.M. Wray of Richmond, and a sister, Mrs. Emma Goodrich of Felton, Minn., to mourn her loss.

Mrs. Gardner was well known to the older people of this section and was noted for her genial spirit and cheerful disposition. Her friends were legion, and she will be greatly missed by those who knew her best.

The remains arrived in Richmond Friday morning and were taken to the home of her brother, where they remained until Sunday when the funeral services were held in the Methodist church, Rev. Anderson officiating. The bearers were old friends and acquaintances of the deceased: H. M. Hastings, G. A. Osmond and J. H.Richardson of Richmond; F. L. Hatch and John W. Sandborn of Spring Grove; and W. H. Cooley of Trinidad, Colo. Interment was in the family cemetary on English Prairie by the side of loved ones who had gone before.
