Merle Harry Allen Groth, age 65, of Riceville passed away at the Riceville Community Rest Home in Riceville, Iowa on Tuesday, April 4, 2006. Funeral services will be held at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Riceville on Friday, April 7, 2006 at 10 A.M. with the Rev. Michael Parris officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Riceville. Friends may call on Thursday at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Riceville during the hours of 4 - 7 P.M. and on Friday one hour prior to services at the church.

Merle was born on May 18, 1940 at the Elma Hospital in Elma to Harry John Carl and Alice Wilhelmina (Lubbert) Groth. He attended Howard county schools and was a graduate of Riceville High School. Merle was united in marriage to Jane Affeldt at St. John's Lutheran Church in Charles City on June 22, 1963. Merle worked as a machinist at White Farms in Charles City for 34 years. Merle was a lifetime member of the Jaycees and especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife Jane of Riceville, Two sons: Jess Groth of Hampton, Iowa and Bryce Groth of Mason City, Iowa, a daughter: Sonja and her husband Brian Conger of Rochester, Minnesota and three grandchildren: Jacob Groth, Melissa Conger and Megan Conger. Also surviving is a brother Eldon and his wife Norma Groth of Saratoga, Iowa and a sister, Elaine Eschweiler of Riceville, Iowa.

Merle was preceded in death by his parents

Riverside Cemetery, Riceville, Mitchell County, Iowa.
