OLE THORSON

The Obituary of Ole H. Thorson (by W. B. Helfritz and Mrs. Wolter)

Ole H. Thorson, son of Halvor Thorson and Bergit Thorson, was born near St. Ansgar, Iowa, on March 16, 1865. He was baptized by Rev. Clausen April 16, 1865, and confirmed by Rev. J. Olsen on September 28, 1879. He married Anna R. Stovern of St. Ansgar, Iowa, on January 6, 1896.

As a young man Mr. Thorson was engaged in farming near the home of his parents, northwest of St. Ansgar. He continued farming until about twenty-four years ago when Mr. and Mrs. Thorson moved to the home they occupied so long at Middleburg. Several years later they moved to a property that Mr. Thorson had purchased on east Main street, St. Ansgar, and which remained his home until the time of his death.

Mr. Thorson had been in fairly good health almost his entire life. He had slight heart trouble that bothered him for some time but was not considered to be in any danger whatsoever. On Friday morning, the 6th of November, he seemed to feel as usual. He had his breakfast and had finished most of his chores when death evidently overtook him instantaneously. Mr. Thorson's position, when found, indicated very clearly that his death was due to a sudden collapse of the heart.

The immediate relatives surviving Mr. Thorson are his wife, Mrs. Anna R. Thorson, and one sister, Mrs. Betsy Kittleson. He is also survived by a large number of other relatives in and near St. Ansgar.

Present at the funeral from away were Mr. W. B. Helfritz, Lyle, Minnesota, who for many years was a member of Mr. and Mrs. Thorson's household; Mrs. F.G. Wolter, of St. Charles, Minnesota. She was also a member of the household of Mr. and Mrs. Thorson for two years and will be remembered at St. Ansgar as Miss Ruth Kittlesby. Present at the funeral were also Marla Stovern of St. Paul, Minn.; Mrs. Stinstead of Calmar, Iowa; Ole Hansen of Northwood, Iowa; Mrs Ellingson of Carpenter, Iowa; Hans Braaten and Ole Braaten of Waltham.

Since Rev. Waldeland has been called away from his trips twice this fall, the family hesitated to request him to break up his trip again and for that reason arranged with the Rev. Langehough of Lyle to conduct the funeral. A telegram, however, reached Rev. Waldeland just in time to catch a train so as to reach home before the funeral, which was conducted on Monday, the 9th of November. Rev. Waldeland and Rev. Langehough both participating.
