VETERAN PASTOR IN IOWA BURIED

THE REV. O. M. VAN SWERINGEN DIES IN ST. PAUL; BURIED AT MITCHELL

Mitchell, March 31. – Funeral services will be held here Monday for the Rev. O. M. Van Sweringen, 85, who died at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Elsa Barker, Friday night at St. Paul, Minnesota. Death was due to a complication of diseases and old age.

The Rev. Mr. Van Sweringen was for many years pastor of the Congregational churches at Strawberry Point and Mitchell. He retired 10 years ago from the ministry and has been making his home during the winter with a daughter; Mrs. A. C. Prime at Waterloo. He had recently been with the daughter at St. Paul.

He was born in Ohio in 1844 and came to Iowa with his parents when a boy. He married Miss Martha Weir more than 50 years ago, who preceded him in death two years ago at Mitchell.

NOTE: The obituary spelled his last name as SWEARINGEN, but it is believed that it should be Sweringen as the Minnesota death record has it.
