OBITUARY
Fred Mackenburg was born May 23rd, 1857, in Simoetzel, Province Pommern, Germany. Soon after birth the child was baptized and at the age of 6 years attended public school in his town.
When the boy was ten years old, his parents came to America with him and settled first in Wisconsin and afterwards came to Howard County, Iowa. Here the deceased bought a farm near the place of his parents.
He married Augusta Sprung, now his mourning widow, November 7th, 1889. Three children were born to them, George, Theresa, and Agnes Julia, who died four years ago, being only 6 months old.
The deceased was always strong and healthy and nobody thought that he would be taken away by such an untimely death in the prime of adulthood. He died of typhoid fever early Sunday morning, August 23rd, 1903. The funeral was Tuesday afternoon, Rev. C. Niedermeier officiating. He was laid to rest at New Oregon Cemetery.
The deceased was a faithful member of the German Lutheran congregation at Cresco, an honest, upright man and loving husband and father. “ May he rest in peace till the great day of resurrection."
