Charles Emil Frederic Kapka

1878 -- Sept. 6, 1947

Charles Kapka, a lifelong resident of this community, passed away at the home of his son, Lyle, near Lime Springs, last Saturday evening at about 10:30 p.m., as the result of a stroke of paralysis.

Charles Emil Frederic Kapka was the son of the late William Kapka and Elizabeth Niehl Kapka. All of his life was spent in the vicinity of Riceville, most of the time on a farm about five miles south of town.

He married Louise Reckner on December 9, 1915, and to this union were born two sons, Kenneth of Coulter and Lyle of Lime Springs, who survive him. His wife died about five years ago.

Although he suffered strokes of paralysis last winter, he was apparently in good health and was up and around on the day of his death. He fell quietly asleep, as we have reason to believe, in the faith of his Savior, Saturday evening.

Mr. Kapka was a life-long member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church at Riceville and was baptized there in infancy, on February 15, 1880 by the Rev. A. Haag. He was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in boyhood.

Besides the survivors named above, he leaves four grandchildren, also six brothers and sisters as follows: Herman, Hevard, Okla.; William, Lime Springs; Robert, Riceville; George, Manteca, Calif.; Julius, Riceville; Martin, Stockton, Calif.; Minnie, Mrs. Fred Lebow and Anna, Mrs. Frank Reckner, both at Riceville and Elsie, Mrs. George Holman, Stockton, Calif.

Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. in the Lyle Kapka home and at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church by the Pastor, the Rev. W. Schroeder.

Burial was in the Lutheran Cemetery, south of Riceville. Pallbearers were Edward, William and George Reckner and Charles, TOny and Fred Brockney.
