Orville McInroy, 1888-1908

ORVILLE McINROY
Found dead in wood lot

Orville McInroy was found dead in the wood lot near his home last Wednesday afternoon on the former Sanford Jennison farm, which he was operating.

Death was accidental, but just how it happened probably will never be known. He had been to Riceville in the afternoon and after returning home he drove to the wood lot to get some poles to repair a sheep shed.

Toward evening his wife saw one of the horses returning alone, apparently having broken away. Fearing something wrong, Mrs. McInroy went down to the lot in search of her husband and almost prostrated to find his dead body lying on the ground near the partially wrecked wagon. The second horse was tangled in the branch.

Dr. F.W. Lee was called and besides some bruises; it was found that a stick or some similar object had penetrated his abdomen. The physician however advanced the opinion that possibly death was caused from shock from contact with the ground in being thrown from the wagon, due to the team running away.

The deceased was a quiet, unassuming industrious young man getting nicely started in building up a home. The occurrence is doubly sad in that a wife and three small children are left to face the world. The funeral services, which were held at the Baptist church, were largely attended overtaxing the capacity of the church, attesting to the respect in which Mr. McInroy and his wife were held. Reverend E. Bodenham conducted the services with interment in the Riverside Cemetery.

The following notice was read at the service; Orville McInroy was born October 4, 1888. He married to Edith Jacobus September 15, 1908, and went to Parker, South Dakota, where they lived for three years and then returned to Riceville.

He was united with the Baptist church of Riceville when 13 years old.

He was of a cheerful disposition and will be much missed by friends and loved ones. He leaves to mourn his loss, a wife, three children, Floyd, Carl and Ione, his father and mother, one brother, one sister, a number of other relatives and a host of friends.

His death came as a great shock to the community October 17, 1917.
