Moses Auringer was born on October 25, 1812 at Onondaga, Onondaga, New York, to Peter Francis Auringer and Susannah Van Denbergh. He had eight siblings: Cornelius, Margaret, Christiana, John Martin, Peter Isaac, Annatie, Andrew and Daniel. He is probably counted in the 1830 census with his parents at Onondaga, Onondaga, New York, but no names were recorded, just marks.

Moses married Hope Hessa Darling abt 1835 at Onondaga, New York. Believe they lived near Colonel Picket's at Otisco, near the old Auringer homestead and later at Cortland county, NY. Found in the 1840 census at Otsico, Onondaga, New York: Moses Auringer, married, 4 people counted, probably him, his wife and 2 oldest daughters: Marcia (born March 1837, married Lucian Bonaparte Maybury Cortland, New York, died 1918 Solon, Cortland, New York) and Jane Auringer (born 1839 Onondaga, New York).

Found in the 1850 census at Lafayette, Onondaga, New York. Laborer. Moses Auringer 38, Hessa Auringer 39, Marsha Auringer 13, Jane Auringer 11, Francis Auringer 8, Mary Auringer 7, Daniel Auringer 5, Henry Auringer 2.

Found in the 1860 census at Cortlandville, Cortland, New York: Moses Oranger 47, Hpsy (should be Hope) Oranger 48, James Oranger 20, Francis Oranger 19, Polly (Mary) Oranger 16, Daniel Oranger 14, Henry James Oranger 12.

Children of Moses and Hope's besides Marcia and Jane are: William Frank (Francis) Auringer (born 1841 Onondaga, New York, never married, no children, died May 5, 1909 Riceville, Mitchell, Iowa);Mary (Polly) (born 1843 Onondaga, New York); Daniel (born February 24, 1846 Onondaga, New York, married Maria Jane Torney February 22, 1880 Riceville, Mitchell, Iowa, died February 12, 1910 Riceville, Mitchell, Iowa); and
Henry James (born January 1848 Onondaga, New York, married Ellen Margaret William 1869 New York, died July 1, 1915 Riceville, Mitchell, Iowa).

Hope Hessa Darling (born 1811 New York) died October 13, 1876 at New York. Some time between when she died in 1876 and when the 1880 census was taken, Moses, sons William Frank Francis, Daniel and Henry James all moved west and settled on farmland at Jamestown, Howard, Iowa.

Moses is found in the 1880, 1885, 1895 censuses at Jamestown, Howard, County. 1880- Widowed, farms: Moses Auringer 69, Frank Auringer 38, Daniel Auringer 34, Henry Auringer 32, Ellen Auringer 28, James C. Auringer 10, Willard E. Auringer 5, Arthur F. Auringer 8m, Mariah Auringer 20.

1885: Henry Auringer 86, Nellie Auringer 33, James Auringer 14, William Auringer 10, Arthur Auringer 5, Mertie Auringer 0, Mays Auringer 73 (should be Moses), Frank Auringer 42 (Moses' brother).

1895: 83 years old.

Moses Auringer died on August 26, 1894 (or 1895) at Jamestown, Howard, Iowa. He is buried at the Riverside Cemetery, Riceville, Mitchell, Iowa.

Found conflicting dates on death date for Moses; it is either September 24, 1894 which is the date given at the Riverside Cemetery records or it may be 1895 since he is listed in the 1895 census as living at Jamestown, Howard, Iowa.
