RICEVILLE MAN’S FUNERAL IS HELD
BODY OF FRED BROKING, 71, IS
TAKEN TO LOWDEN FOR BURIAL

Riceville, Iowa - Jan. 3 – Funeral services were held yesterday for Fred Broking, 71, at the Hubbard funeral home in Riceville. Burial was today at Lowden beside his wife who died eight years ago.

Mr. Broking was born in Germany but came with his parents to Cedar County, Iowa, when he was 2.

In 1909 the Broking family moved to a farm near McIntire and operated a farm for several years, later moving to Riceville and then operating a restaurant in the building now occupied by a meat market.

There were 11 children, of which survive; Mrs. Ester Creighton and Mrs. Lillie Duede of Cedar Rapids; Mrs. Minnie Claflin, Fairfax; Mrs. Ella Timmerman, Riceville; and Elvina, Lena, and Emma Broking, who lived with their father at Riceville.

His wife, Louise C. Broking, 1872-1925, is buried in the Massillon Cemetery, Massilon, Cedar, Iowa.
