ED DURKEE, 80, OF CARPENTER, SUCCUMBS
CARPENTER, IOWA – Ed Durkee, 80, local businessman for nearly 30 years, operating under the name Durkee & Priem Implement Shop, died Wednesday at his home following a stroke.
He is survived by his only child, Mrs. Clyde (Eva) Groner, who with her husband, has cared for him during his illness.
He is also survived by three grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

#2:EDWARD DURKEE OF CARPENTER,
DIES AT AGE OF 80 YEARSEdward Durkee, who spent the past 60 years in Mitchell County, died at his home in Carpenter, Tuesday, June 20, at 8 o'clock in the evening. He was 80 years, 5 months and 29 days old.
He was born at Leads, Wisconsin, December 21, 1863, and came to Carpenter, Iowa, when he was 20 years of age. He worked on the railroad there for 10 years then bought a farm near Meltonville, which he farmed for 10 years.
He was married in 1890 to Elizabeth Denison. One child, Eva, was born to this union.
In 1904, he purchased an implement shop in Carpenter of J. W. Wallace and moved to that town to operate it. Ten years later, 1914, he entered a partnership with L. N. Priem. The partnership continued until the first of this month when Mr. Priem purchased the senior partner's interest.
Mr. Durkee retained reasonably good health until his 80th birthday. A few days before his 80th birthday in December, he went to Chicago to visit his daughter, Eva, and her husband, Clyde Groner. Two days after his birthday he suffered a stroke at his daughter's home.
He never did quite recover from the stroke although he was up and down until May 25, when Mr. and Mrs. Groner brought him to his home in Carpenter. They together with their daughter, Mrs. T. J. Miller of Alhambra, California stayed with him until his death.
He leaves to mourn his death, a sister, Mrs. E. W. (Sadie) Farwell of Windsor, Wisconsin; three brothers, John and Albert in Portland, Oregon, and Frank of Merrilan, Wisconsin; his daughter, Mrs. Clyde Groner of Chicago; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Durkee died some twenty years ago.
The funeral was held Friday at the St. Ansgar Methodist Church with the Reverend Belling in charge. Burial was in the Carpenter Cemetery.
