HEGSTADS OBSERVE ANNIVERSARY

Riceville – The Rev. and Mrs. Paul Hegstad, Riceville were honored at a surprise dinner for relatives in observance of their 50th wedding anniversary.

Open house was held from 6 to 8 p.m. for members of the Free Methodist Church and a few close neighbors. The couple’s children and grandchildren were hosts.

Paul Hegstad and Clara Peterson were married August 27, 1910 in Great Falls, Montana, and lived at various places including Fowler, Montana, Dickey, North Dakota, and Crookston, Minnesota, before returning to Montpelier, North Dakota, where he was a cashier in a bank.

Mr. Hegstad was a traveling evangelist for some time, and was ordained in the ministry in August 1924 in South Dakota. The family moved to Riceville in the fall of 1945, and has lived at the south edge of town since.

The Hegstads are parents of three children; Palmer Hegstad, Austin, Minnesota; Mrs. Roy (Lydia) Miller, Des Moines; and Mrs. Richard (Ruth) Macy, Muncie, Indiana. They have seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Paul Hegstad died January 1973 in Riceville, Howard, Iowa and was buried in the Riverside, Riceville, Mitchell, Cemetery.

At the time of his death his children Paul Hegstad; Lydia (Hegstad) Miller Noble; and Ruth Macy were still alive.
