BURKE RITES HELD
Riceville – Funeral services were held for Mrs. Thomas Burke, 84, Tuesday morning at the Immaculate Conception Church, conducted by the Rev. Fr. O’Sullivan.
Interment was in Calvary Cemetery, Riceville.

Katherine Cecelia Saunders was born February 13, 1862 in Wisconsin, the daughter of Thomas and Anastacia (Nolan) Saunders. She married Thomas Henry Burke, the son of Edmund and Mary (Mahoney) Burke……. (parents from 1925 Iowa Census)
According to her husband Thomas’s obit (1953); they settled on the old homestead following their marriage.
To them were born 10 children, nine of whom survive as follows; Nellie Humes, Margate City, N.J.; Edmond Burke, Cleveland, Ohio; Marie and Stacia Dorneden (twin sisters who married brothers) both of Gratiot, Wis.; Robert Burke, Waterloo; Francis Burke of home; James Burke of El Centro Cal.; Irene Shornhorst, Waterloo. The tenth child, Thomas died in infancy.

#3:Obituary of Mrs. Thomas Burke
Mrs. Thomas Burke passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Thomas Quinn, after a critical illness of several months. She was 83 years of age. Mrs. Burke fell and broken a hip; was at Cedar Valley Hospital for some time then was brought to her daughter's home.
Catherine Saunders, daughter of Thomas and Anastasia Saunders, was born at Darlington, Wisconsin, February 13, 1862 and died Sunday, December 16, 1945.
She came to Riceville 57 years ago after her marriage to Mr. Burke. They settled on the old Burke homestead and lived there for 47 years when they retired and moved to Riceville.
She is survived by her aged husband and nine children: Mrs. Nellie Humes of Margate City, New Jersey; Dr. Edmund Burke of Waterloo; (Thomas Burke, died in infancy); Mrs. John Dorneden and Mrs. Laurence Dorneden (twin daughters who married brothers) of Gratiot, Wisconsin; Robert and Francis Burke and Mrs. Tom Quinn of Riceville; Jim Burke of Banning, California; Mrs. Irene Schornhorst, Waterloo and one sister, Miss Margaret Saunders of Gratiot, Wisconsin. Also 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at 9:30 o'clock at Immaculate Conception Church, Father O'Sullivan officiating with interment in Calvary Cemetery.
