FAVILLE, Esther D. (Cray)

"Died -- At Norfolk, Virginia, Nov. 26th 1902, Esther D. Faville, widow of Hon A. S. Faville, aged 71 years.

The above notice will bring sadness, mingled with pleasant memories, to very many of the people of Mitchell County.

Judge Faville was one of the pioneers of the county, coming here in 1854. In 1855 he married Mrs. Faville, then Esther D. Cray, and brought her, a bride, to their beautiful farm home near Mitchell. There they spent their active lives, and their their children were reared.

Mrs. Faville was born in Knox, Albany county, New York; graduated at the New York normal school in Albany, and until her marriage to Judge Faville, taught school in central New York. In person, character, and life, she was a beautiful and lovely Christian woman. Her happy disposition, broad scholarship, genearous and brilliant mental qualities, with congenial temperament, high character and life attainments of her husband, made their home always a center of social, moral and intellectual interests and pleasure.

Their boys grew up and ambition called them from their early home.

Some years ago, Judge and Mrs. Faville removed temporarily to Chicago, where they had property interests. Later they went to make their home in the genial climate and pleasant surroundings of Norfolk, Virginia, where their son, Dr. George C. Faville and family reside. Judge Faville died there two years ago; since which time Mrs. Faville's health has been poor, and for several months past, she was a great sufferer from disease. She died painlessly, in perfect Christian peace and faith, at her home in Norfolk, and is buried there by the side of her honored husband.

She leaves there sons; Dr. George C. and Alfred of Norfolk, and Hon. Fred F. Faville of Storm Lake, Iowa, and their devoted and beloved adopted daughter, Miss Julia of Norfolk; all of whom were present to watch and comfort her at the last.
