Osage: Joseph Via Pitra 70, died Tuesday of cancer following a year’s illness, during which he submitted to surgery three times.

Born April 16, 1878 in Czechoslovakia; married Amila Popelka there in 1906, coming to Bordulac, N. D., in 1908; in 1937 came to Osage; leaves widow, seven children, Mrs. Herman Reimers, Carrington, N. Dakota; Mrs. Stanley Sait, Auburndale, Wis.; Joseph B., Moline, Illinois; Frank and Stanley in Massachusetts; Mrs. Gordon Galsley and Marjorie, Osage; two sisters, Mrs. Charles Data, Kensal, N. Dakota; and Mrs. Alvin Miska, Portland, Oregon; a brother in Czechoslovakia; several grand-children and great-grandchildren; preceded by a brother and sister.

JOSEPH PITRA DIED
TUESDAY AT HOME
AFTER YEAR'S ILLNESS

Funeral services for Joseph V. Pitra, 70, were held this morning (Thursday) at the Sacred Heart church with the Rev. T. J. Conroy officiating. Burial was made in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Mr. Pitra died Tuesday at his home following a year's illness, during which time he submitted to surgery three times.

Joseph Vla Pitra was born on April 16, 1878 in Czechoslovakia. He married Amelia Popelka there, in 1902, and they came to this country in 1908. They settled in Borulac, North Dakota, where they farmed until 1937. At that time they moved to Osage where they have lived since.

Surviving are his widow and nine children, Mrs. Herman Reimers of Carrington, North Dakota, Mrs. Stanley Fait of Auburndale, Wisconsin, Joseph B., Jr. of Moline, Illinois, Bert of Los Angeles, Calif., Frank and Stanley of Osage, Mrs. Chester Gorski of Clinton, Mass, Mrs. Gordon Balsley and Marjorie of Osage.

He is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Charles Bata of Kensal, N. Dakota, and Mrs. Alvin Miska of Oregon City, Oregon; a brother, Frank in Czechoslovakoa; 17 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
