THREE CONRAD CHILDREN DIE OF BURNS

Mrs. Henry Conrad, near Little Cedar, was burned to death when a gasoline flatiron caught fire.

She became excited and threw it in the midst of her three children who were also seriously burned.

A very serious accident occurred yesterday morning at the Henry Conrad home at Little Cedar, when their three children, a babe about one year old, a girl eight, and one eleven, were severely burned. They were playing about the table with matches near a can of alcohol when it caught fire. The mother picked up the can and told the children to run out doors, and in the excitement she threw the can on or near them.

They were brought to Mercy Hospital where the babe died a short time after her arrival. The other two children are in a very serious condition and the doctors are unable to tell just how badly they are burned.

A terrible accident occurred in the Henry Conrad home Tuesday morning when three of their little girls were horribly burned by gasoline fire.

Mrs. Conrad having filled her gas iron told her 13-year-old son Carl to put the can containing the oil away, but not heeding her request he proceeded to light the Iron near the open can of oil. The lighted match ignited the fumes from the oil and as a result the clothes of the children caught fire. Their piercing screams brought immediate help to extinguish the fire and Drs. Brown and Smith of Stacyville were summoned to give aid, then hurried them with Mrs. Conrad, whose hands were also badly burned, to Cresco, where they are being cared for in St. Joseph's Hospital.

Dr. Brown, Mr. and Mrs. R. Tyler, Mr. and Mrs. F. Kruger and Mrs. M. C. Houghton accompanied the afflicted family to Cresco and brought back the body of the youngest child who died about noon.

The funeral was held Friday afternoon at the Methodist church, conducted by the Pastor, Rev. Shepley, Rev. J. A. Cochan assisting.

Six little girls, Viola and Violet Hultmun, Myra McPhail, Ruth Kruger, Jessie Benson and Florence Gaines, carried the little casket which was covered with beautiful flowers brought by kind and loving friends and neighbors. Heartfelt sympathy is extended to the suffering ones who according to latest reports are resting quietly with a chance of recovery. Mr. Conrad is with them and Clara is staying at the Williams home for the present.

THIRD CONRAD GIRL DIES

Followed Two Sisters After Suffering from Injuries Several Weeks.
Died Last Thursday

The third and last child victim of the terrible gasoline fire accident in the Conrad home at Little Cedar passed away last Thursday.

The accident occurred in the middle of July and the baby died the same day. The second death was reported in these columns last week and the death of Vera, occurring last Thursday, closes the third chapter in one of the worst tragedies that has been visited upon this county.

Funeral services were held Saturday and a large crowd was present.

Everywhere is manifested the deepest sympathy for the afflicted family.
