Fern May (Priem) Beaver - Bond 1923-2004

FERN M. BOND

MASON CITY, IOWA -- Fern M. Bond, 80, of 2501 W. State St., Apt. 7, Mason City, died Monday (March 1, 2004) after a short illness at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 329 E. State St., Mason City, with Rev. Paul D. Finger officiating. Burial will be in the Priem Cemetery, St. Ansgar.

The family will greet friends 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St. N.E., Mason City, and one hour prior to the service at the church, Thursday.

Fern May Priem, the daughter of Rufus and Mabel (Bublitz) Priem, was born on October 17, 1923, in rural St. Ansgar. Fern graduated from Carpenter High School.

She was united in marriage to Merle L. Beaver. To this marriage six children were born. Fern lived her adult life in Mason City, working at Spic and Span Restaurant, Bens Nursing Home, and the Holiday Inn. She retired from the Cerro Gordo County Care Facility in 1985, where she was the head cook. Fern married Harold Bond Sr. The couple enjoyed their retirement years by fishing and traveling.

Fern enjoyed her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and especially her cat, Mr. T. She loved to collect antiques, dolls, going to garage sales, and watching Hawkeye basketball. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles No. 3416 of Mason City.

Fern is survived by her children and their spouses, Gerald and Beverly Beaver of St. Ansgar, Larry and Patricia Beaver of Forest Lake, Minn., Gary and Ida Beaver of Mason City, Sherry and Bob Nock of Algona, Randy and Lana Beaver of Mason City, and Shelly and Marty Allen of Mason City; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one brother, Raymond Priem of St. Ansgar; and one sister, Sylvia Buringrud of Fairfield, Calif.

Fern was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Merle and Harold; and one brother, Art.
