NASHUA CRASH KILLS ONE WOMAN

Nashua – Mrs. Gerald Yourell, 65, Dubuque was killed in a collision here Sunday afternoon. She was a passenger in a car driven by her husband who is in the Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City with a severe concussion.

It collided with a car driven by Marion Marten, Auburn, Iowa at the intersection of Highway 218 and Lexington St., a blacktop farm-to-market road at the edge of Nashua.

Don Harris, highway patrolman said there is a stop sign on the blacktop road on which the Marten car approached the highway. Claude Hoffman, deputy sheriff and Nashua police also investigated the accident.

Riding with Marten were his wife and three children, 5 ½ to 2 ¼, and their cousin, Terry Arkland, 17, Eldora. They were all taken to the Cedar Valley Hospital. The Marten’s daughter, 5 ½ was later transferred to a Rochester, Minnesota, hospital with a skull fracture. The rest of the Marten family and Arkland all suffered head and face bruises and slight concussions.

Mrs. Yourell was the former Elizabeth Foxen, of New Haven. She took nurses training at Dubuque and was a nurse at the former Nissen Hospital in Osage before her marriage.

Surviving are her husband, a daughter; Yolanda, Dubuque; and two brothers; John Foxen, Osage; Thomas Foxen, McIntire; a sister; Mrs. Leo Schmidt, Bonnfield, Ill.

Osage – Funeral rites for Mrs. Gerald Yourell , 65, former Osage resident, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday at St. Columbkille’s Catholic Church, Dubuque.

Mrs. Yourell who lived in Dubuque, was killed Sunday in a car accident at Nashua. She was returning home after spending the weekend in Osage

Elizabeth Foxen was born December 9, 1899 in Mitchell County, Iowa, the daughter of Theodore Foxen and Anna (Miller) Foxen. She married Gerald Yourell. He was born April 24, 1903 and died June 23, 1995 Columbus, Franklin, Ohio
