Mrs. Nellie Chatman 1894-1985

Funeral services for Mrs. Nellie Chatman, 90, who died Tuesday, Feb. 5 at Faith Home in Osage were held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 9 at the United Church of Christ.

The Rev. Keith Hejnal officiated at the service and burial was in the Osage Cemetery. Champion Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Chatman was born June 26, 1894 near St. Ansgar. Her parents were Nels and Betsey (Mikkelson) Rust. Mrs. Chatman graduated from St. Ansgar High School and attended the former Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls for two years. She taught kindergarten at schools in Manly and Osage.

She married Frank Chatman on June 1, 1921, in St. Ansgar. Mrs. Chatman also helped her husband
operate the Chatman Food Store in Osage for many years.

She was a member of the Eastern Star, PEO Sisterhood and the United Church of Christ in Osage, where she taught Sunday school for 40 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank in 1968; a son, Alfred in 1978; one sister, and three brothers.

Survivors include a son, Ben of Osage; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
