John Philip (Phil) Pettit, 69, passed away on September 1 [1984] in Inverness, Florida.

John Pettit was born in Osage, Iowa, on February 3, 1915, to Claude and Mayme Pettit. He graduated from Osage High School and moved to Florida in 1940. He served as a deputy with the sheriff's department in Inverness.

Survivors include his wife, Leona; one son, John Pettit Jr. of Fernandina Beach, Florida; two grandchildren; one brother, Robert Pettit of Haines City, Florida, and one sister, Elizabeth (Betty) Andrews of Dunefin, Florida.
