FUNERAL FOR LYFORD, 88, PIONEER MANLY RESIDENT, IS HELDManly – Funeral services for Horace K. Lyford, 88 were held Tuesday afternoon at the Bethel Church, the Rev. F. R. Blakeley conducting services. A quartet composted of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Harnock, Carl Gerkin and Mrs. F. R. Blakely sang.
Mr. Lyford was born June 17, 1848, at St. Albans, Maine. He attended university at Waterville, Maine, and was married to Sophia Stinchfield of Harland, Maine, in 1870. Two sons were born; Fred R. Lyford, county engineer, New Hampton; and J. Howard Lyford, businessman of Columbus, Ohio.
His wife died in 1974. In 1876 he was married to Clara Stinchfield at Osage. Three sons were born to the union; LeRoy L., assistant chief engineer of the Illinois Central Railroad at Chicago; Lloyd, farmer at Manly; Reid of Malvern.
All five sons and his wife survive, also 14 grandchildren.
Mr. Lyford was a pioneer, coming to Iowa in 1869, building up two farms near Manly and living here until 1908, when they moved to Dakota, returning only five years ago.
Pallbearers were William Hunderford, George Seifdiers, Carl Bendjegerdes, Henry Gendejegerdes, Harlan Doebel, John Backhaus.
Burial was at Osage.

Horace Kirby Lyford was the son of John F Lyford and Fairrena (Rowe) Lyford. He married Sophia Stinchfield and after her death, her sister Clara Stinchfield, daughters of Alphonso Stinchfield and Harriet (Briggs) Stinchfield.
