Funeral services were held on Tuesday, January 15, 1985, at the Congregational Church in Riceville for Clifford Charles Pearce, 75, who died on Friday, January 11, at his winter home in Scottsdale, Arizona. The Rev. D. Coakley, the Rev. H. Hawf and the Rev. W. Bohl officiated at the service and burial was in the Riverside Cemetery, Riceville.
Lindtrom Funeral Home, Riceville, was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Pearce, owner and manager of the Farmers Telephone Co., Riceville, was a 20-year member of the U.S. Independent Telephone Association and was president of the association from 1960-1961. He was on the board of directors of the Iowa Telephone Association from 1944-1971 and was president from 1952-53. In 1971 he was elected an honorary lifetime member of the association.
He was on the board of directors of the National Independent Telephone Pioneers and was president in 1967. He was an original member of the Hall of Fame Honors Committee.
Mr. Pearce was also a member of the board of directors of the First National Bank, Riceville, a member of the Riceville Kiwanis Club, and a member of the First Congregational Church, Riceville, where he served as deacon and trustee for many years.
In 1973, Mr. Pearce received the Governor's Leadership award from Gov. Robert Ray, and in 1984 received the same award from Gov. Terry Branstad.
He was born on August 4, 1909 in Hanover, Illinois, to John and Ida Pearce, and was married to Doris Mabb, of Hawkeye, on October 21, 1931.
Survivors include his wife, Doris, Riceville; one daughter, Diane Fischer, Scottsdale, Arizona; two sons, Donald, Riceville, and Dick, Payson, Arizona; seven grandchildren; one sister, Beulah Finch, Sumner; and three brothers, Beauford, St. Paul, Minnesota, and Alva and Vernon, both of Mason City, Iowa.
