HELEN L. HARTMAN

GRAFTON, IOWA - Helen L. Hartman, 91, of 701 E. Fourth St. in St. Ansgar, and formerly of Grafton, died Sunday (Dec. 15, 2002) at the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 308 Fourth Ave. in Grafton, with the Rev. Wayne Ellingson officiating. Burial will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery, Hwy 122 West in Mason City.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 Spring St. in Manly.

Memorials may be given to the Helen L. Hartman Memorial Fund.

Helen was born November 19, 1911, in Manly to William F. and Lena (Benjegerdes) Tietz. She attended country school in the Manly area and graduated from the Manly High School.

Helen L Tietz was united in marriage to Henry W. Hartman on Aug. 19, 1942, in Manly.

From 1942 to 1970 she farmed with her husband, Henry, on the family farm near Grafton and also worked as a nurses aide at the Cerro Gordo County Home for many years. In 1970 they moved to Grafton and lived there until December of 2000 when she moved to the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar.

Helen loved to do crocheting, to paint oil paintings and to go bowling and fishing. Her main hobby was gardening. She was an active member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Grafton for many years and also helped with the Grafton Senior Citizens and belonged to the Minerva Club in Grafton.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Darrell Hartman and his wife, Renee, of Grafton; her daughter, Diann Howell and her husband, Guy, of Surprise, Ariz.; three grandchildren, Michelle Varner of Northwood, Kerri Hartman, of Grafton and Kristine Tabbert and her husband, Kyle, of Grafton; and two great-grandchildren, Derek and Kaitlyn Varner, of Northwood.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Henry; eight brothers, Benny, Robert, Walter, Chris, Alfred, John, Richard, and Morris; and three sisters, Emma, Iona, and Marie.
