Born: September 23, 1856
Died: May 30, 1912

Mary Decker was born at Peoria, Illinois, on September 13, 1856. She came with her parents to Union township, Mitchell county, Iowa in November, 1856. Here she grew to young womanhood. She was married to Peter Heffner, thirty-five years ago.

She is survived by her husband, six children, Anna, the wife of William Gerhart; Albert, Francis, Mary, Peter and Jacob; her aged mother, Mrs. Jacob Decker of Union township; two brothers, George Decker of Union township, Albert Decker of Cedar township, one sister, Anna, the wife of George Harwind of Union township and fifteen nephews and nieces. Her father, four sisters, one brother and four children, preceded her in death.

She died near Rose Creek, Minnesota, May 30, 1912 at the age of 55 years, 8 months and 17 days. She professed faith in Jesus Christ, being a member of the German Union Presbyterian church of Union township, Mitchell County.

The Word of God says for our consolation: "But I would not have you be ignorant brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

"Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the hearts of man the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

"Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord".
