KENOSHA - Frank Allan Messerlie, 76, passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, November 7, 2009. Born March 21, 1933 in Osage, Iowa, he was the son of the late Ernest and Hazel (nee: Pierce) Messerlie.He attended Washington Grade School and attended Osage High School in Osage, Iowa, before graduating from Charles City High School in Charles City, Iowa. After graduation, he worked for the Oliver Corporation in Charles City. In March of 1953, Frank was drafted into the United States Army. He spent basic training with the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Breckenridge, Ky. He was later transferred to Dugway Proving Ground in Utah, where he worked testing blood and nerve gases and destroying old munitions. Frank was honorably discharged in March of 1955.
In 1958, Frank moved to Kenosha to join the automotive industry. He worked for American Motor Corporation for thirty years and for Chrysler Corp for ten years as a tool grinder and tool research engineer. After celebrating his retirement, he enjoyed working at Stein Garden and Gifts, where he enjoyed meeting people and doing odd jobs.
He married Mary Thom on April 23, 1966 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Paris. Their marriage was blessed with eight children and seven grandchildren. He was a member of Holy Rosary Parish and a past member of the Allemande Square Dance Club, AM Supervisors Club and the Kenasha Club.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; children, Teresa (John) Hagan of Twisp, Wash., Mary 'Fran' (Don) Beckett of Kailua, Hawaii, Edward (Leslie Clachrie) Messerlie of Platteville, Christopher (Brittany) Messerlie of Fort Bliss, Texas, Matthew (Angela) Messerlie of Vilseck, Germany, and Liesl (Chase) Murphy of Lindenhurst, Ill.; grandchildren, Peter and Joseph Messerlie, Sean, Frank and Kyle Hagan, and Alana and Xander Messerlie.
He is further survived by a sister, Anne Twigg of Kenosha, and many loving nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Frank was preceded in death by a son, Peter; two brothers, Jim and Fred Messerlie; two brothers- in-law, Peter Thom and Eugene Twigg; and sister-in-law Jean Leffelman.
Funeral services for Frank will be held on Thursday, November 12, 2009. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 4400 22nd Avenue.
Interment will follow in Southern Wisconsin Veterans Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 11th from 5 until 7 p.m., with a Rosary at 7 p.m., at the Piasecki- Althaus Funeral Home.Racine Journal Times, Racine, Wisconsin, Tuesday November 10, 2009
