OSAGE, IOWA - Dean Marshall Barker, 76, of Osage, passed away at his home on Sunday, July 3, 2011.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 6, at the Little Cedar United Methodist Church in Little Cedar with the Rev. Peter Chang officiating. Burial will be at the Little Cedar Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-6:30 p.m. today, Tuesday, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.
Dean Marshall Barker, of Osage, was born October 15, 1934, the son of George and Mary (Murphy) Barker. He graduated from Little Cedar High School in 1952. Dean joined the National Guard in 1957. While in the service he was united in marriage to Charlotte Faye Davison on June 30, 1962, in Lakewood, Washington. After completing his years of service, Dean returned to college at Iowa State University where he graduated with an agricultural engineering degree in 1965. He began his career at Oliver Manufacturing in Charles City. Dean was then transferred to Hopkins, Minn., in 1970 when Oliver and Minneapolis Moline merged to form White Corporation. He worked for AGCO and lived in England from June 1993 to March 1994. In 1979, Dean and Charlotte moved back to the Osage area to farm, where he was currently residing.
Dean and Charlotte were blessed with two sons, George and Marshall. Dean enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. He enjoyed his vehicles, downhill skiing, tractors, and tractor rides. He loved the farm.
Dean is survived by his wife, Charlotte Barker of Osage; his sons, George (Kristen) Barker and their children, Paige, Blake and Bryce of Manly, Marshall (Carolyn) Barker and their children, Elijah and Charity of Swisher; a brother, Greg Barker of Little Cedar; a sister, Helen Young of Osage; a brother-in-law, James Davison of Osage; and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two young siblings, Marjorie and Robert; parents-in-law, Robert and Marian Davison; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Barker and Dorothy Davison; and brother-in-law, Charlie Young.
