BALSLEY RITES TO BE SATURDAY
AGED OSAGE RESIDENT IS STRUCK DOWN BY CAR ON HIGHWAY

Osage, April 17 – Wallace A Balsley, 72, who died yesterday from injuries received when he was run into by an automobile driven by Stanley Dieterich, will be buried here Saturday afternoon. Funeral services will be held in the home at 2 o’clock.

Balsley had been visiting in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Robert Kuehne, near Osage and started home before the remainder of the family, expecting to be picked up by the when they caught up with him down the road.

Upon seeing the family car approaching he stepped across the road to get in but in doing so walked directly into the path of the car driven by Dieterich.

Mr. Balsley was struck down to approximately the same spot about 18 months ago by an automobile from which he had never fully recovered. In the accident yesterday, Mr. Balsley received a broken nose, several broken ribs and is believed to have suffered some internal injuries. He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Robert Kuehne, another daughter, Mrs. Mary Opperman, and his wife.

Wallace Alfred Balsley was born September 1857 in New York, the son of Alfred and Lucretia Balsley. His mother’s name might have also have been Hannah or maybe Hannah Lucretia. Census records have it both ways. (from 1900 and 1925 Census records)
He married Julia Amelia Collier , the daughter of Ebeinetus Collier and Mary (Sudlow) Collier.
