RICEVILLE, IOWA - Clarence H. Walker, 86, of Riceville, died Thursday (June 13, 2002) at the Riceville Community Rest Home.

His funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Riceville, with the Rev. Michael Parris officiating. Burial will be in St. Peters Lutheran Cemetery in rural Riceville.

Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday at Lindstrom Funeral Home in Riceville.

CLARENCE HOWARD WALKER

RICEVILLE, IOWA - Clarence Howard Walker, 86, passed away Thursday (June 13, 2002) at Riceville Community Rest Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Riceville with the Rev. Michael Parris officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery in rural Riceville. Military rites will be conducted by Roy Gue Post No. 244 of Riceville.

Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Lindstrom Funeral Home, Riceville.

Clarence was born April 11, 1916, in Esmond, N.D., son of Christopher and Bernice Marlenee Walker. He attended local schools and graduated from high school in Colo, Iowa.

He married Gayle Polton on June 22, 1941, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

Clarence entered the Army in 1942 and served in New Guinea in the East Indies campaigns, and achieved the rank of staff sergeant.

Clarence and Gayle farmed near State Line when they were first married and then moved to a farm in rural Saratoga, Iowa. Clarence was an independent truck driver and in later years worked for Mehmert Trucking. Clarence and Gayle moved into Riceville in 1964.

Clarence was an avid reader, enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing and a home-cooked meal. He was an avid Riceville Wildcats fan. His love of trucking never ended.

Survivors include two sons, Robert and his wife, Kathy Walker, of Riceville, and Michael and his wife, Brenda Walker, of Kaiser, Mo.; four daughters, Evelyn Torney of Eastman, Wis., Nancy Dobbs and her husband, Jack, of Osage, Betty Koschmeder and her husband, Fred, of Riceville, and Kathleen Tonn and her husband, Leland, of Britt; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Elaine Stamm and her husband, Ira, of Twain Heart, Calif.

Clarence was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gayle, in May 1991; one grandson, Timothy Torney; one granddaughter, Christina Tonn, and one sister, Natalie Suddarth.
