LIFELONG RESIDENT OF
RICEVILLE, DIES

RICEVILLE, IOWA - Mrs. David Stockdale, 87, lifelong resident of Riceville, died at midnight Monday from old age weakness.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Carrie Wilkes, by her first marriage, six grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday with burial at Riceville.

Mary Teeple was born in Ontario, Canada, the daughter of John and Eliza (Johnson) Teeple. Her father died in Canada and is buried there. Her mother is buried in the Riverside Cemetery.

She married Joseph Smith who was born in 1849 and died in 1878. He is buried in the Riverside Cemetery. They had a daughter Carrie Mabel Smith, who was born in 1869. She married Albert Wilkes. Albert and Carrie are buried in Riverside Cemetery.

Sometime after the death of Joseph Smith, Mary Teeple Smith married David F. Stockdale, the son of Joseph and Mary (Hicks) Stockdale. Iowa death record show her as being born 1850-died 1937. David died in 1925. They must have married sometime between 1880-1900 because David is shown in the 1880 Census as single and a farm hand at the Alfred Wooden home in Clay, County, Iowa. There must have been another marriage to an unknown Fisher in between the death or divorce from Joseph Smith because in 1880 she is listed as Mary Fisher living with her brother, Edward Teeple.
