OSAGE, IOWA — Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Champion Funeral Home here for Mrs. Clara Gardner, 77, lifelong resident of Mitchell County, who died Friday night at her home, having been bedridden the last seven months, and ill for number of years; burial in Osage cemetery.

Nee Clara Lewis Huntington, she was born in Osage, November 9, 1871, daughter of John and Candace Huntington; educated in Osage and married to William C. Gardner in 1892, here. Mr. Gardner was a member of the original Gardner Nursery firm here. He preceded her in death in 1934.

She leaves four daughters, Mrs. William Naden, Webster City; Mrs. Doris Taylor, Osage; Mrs. Josh VanZandt, Des Moines, and Mrs. Linton Arsers, Osage; a foster son, William C. Gardner, New York City; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, and a brother, Charles Huntington, Clear Lake Highlands, California.

She was preceded in death by her husband, one sister, and a grandchild.

MRS. CLARA GARDNER
DIED AT HER HOME
AFTER LONG ILLNESS

Funeral services for Mrs. Clara Gardner, 77, were held Tuesday, march 1, at the Champion funeral home with the Rev. C. James pastor of the Methodist church, officiating. Burial was made in the Osage Cemetery. Mrs. Gardner died on Friday, February 25, 1949, at her home in Osage, after a long illness.

Clara Lewis Huntington was born on November 9, 1871, to Candace Ludlow and John Huntington at Osage, Iowa. She was united in marriage to William C. Gardner on July 20, 1892, at Osage, and they spent their entire lives in the Osage community.

Mrs. gardner received her education in the Osage public schools and at an early age affiliated with the Methodist church. Her activities in the church included a lifetime of service as a member, teacher, or officer in the Sunday school, Edworth League, Ladie's Aid, Home and Foreign Missionary societies, Organ club, and the Official Board.

She was also active in the Woman's Relief Corps and Auxiliary to the Grand Army of the Republic. In recognition of her years as president of the Frank A. Brush Corps No. 307 of Osage, Patriotic Instructor of the Department of Iowa, and national Aide, the local Corps presented her with a gold emblem.

Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. William (Ruth) Naden of Webster City, Mrs. Doris Taylor and Mrs. Linton (Grace) Arsers of Osage, and Mrs. Josh (Candace) Van Zandt of Des Moines; one foster son, William C. Gardner of new York City; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one brother, Charley B. Huntington of Clear lake Highlands, California.

She was preceded in death by her husband, one sister, Belle, and one grandson, Charles.
