NEW HARTFORD, IOWA — Herbert H. Hovelson, 72, longtime New Hartford city clerk and former New Hartford High School principal, died Wednesday morning during surgery at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo where he was admitted after becoming ill in the night.

An Osage native, he taught school in Osage, Whitten, Swaledale, Woden, and Finchford, and was high school principal in New Hartford for eight years, starting in 1946. He had served as secretary of the New Hartford School Board for several years and until the time of his death.

Services are pending at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home.

Survived by his wife, Anita; a daughter, Mrs. Lynn E. Willey of San Antonio, Texas; a son, Jack Hovelson of Cedar Falls: two grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Russell Stock of Osage.

NEW HARTFORD, IOWA - Services for Herbert Hovelson who died Wednesday morning in Waterloo will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in New Hartford with burial at Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be until 11 a.m. Friday at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home Chapel in New Hartford.
