(Bio)

Stanley E. Godfrey, youngest of five children, was born July 16, 1903 to George and Daisy (Welch) Godfrey, at the farm home east of Orchard, in West Lincoln Township.

Stanley graduated from Osage High School in 1922. In high school he was noted for his Irish wit, and enjoyed playing football. All through life friends remembered him with Irish cards on St. Patrick's Day.

Stanley continued farming the family farm and cared for his mother after his father passed away. He became the owner of the family farm. Stanley raised Brown Swiss cattle. In 1946 his Brown Swiss Bull was Grand Champion at the All-Iowa Fair, Cedar Rapids. Also Grand Champion at the Canton Show in Wisconsin.

Stanley finally met the girl of his dreams and married Frances Reed of Greeley, Colorado, in June 1955. (A sister of Therese Haines.) They lived a couple of winters in Greeley. Frances retired from teaching in Colorado and they returned to Iowa, moving to the family farm where they lived until they moved to their new home at 814 Walnut, Osage, in 1967.

Stanley was a member of the Masonic Lodge and El-Kahir Shrine of Cedar Rapids. Frances was a Regent of Lucretia Deering Chapter of D.A.R., Worthy Matron of Eastern Star, and a member of the Congregational Church. Frances prepared all the paper work to obtain a grant for the Osage Senior Center, 615 State, which was matched by the Seniors of Osage.

Stanley passed away September 26, 1975 and Frances passed away May 29, 1979. Both are buried in the Osage City Cemetery.
