JERRY H. FOLKERS
OSAGE, IOWA - Jerry H. Folkers, 63, of Osage, died Monday (Jan. 28, 2002) at his home.
Jerry was born on October 16, 1938, in Allison, the son of Erwin and Lucille (Ellerman) Folkers. He attended school in Allison and graduated from Allison High School in 1956. He attended Wartburg College at Waverly, where he received his bachelor's degree and then attended law school at The University of Iowa in Iowa City and graduated in 1962.
He was united in marriage to Betty Bruns on Sept. 8, 1962, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Rockwell and to this marriage were born two children, Eric on June 17, 1964, and Anna on Sept. 28, 1967.
After graduating from the College of Law, Jerry entered the Marine Corps where he attained the rank of captain, and was honorably discharged in 1966.
They moved to Osage in 1966, where Jerry started to practice law. He served as Mitchell County attorney from 1968 to 1996. He was a member of the law firm, McKinley, Folkers, Walk, and Murphy in Osage.
He was treasurer of the Osage American Legion Post 278. For a time he also served as superintendent at Our Savior's Lutheran Church where he was a member.
He was an avid fisherman, cribbage player, chess player, and gardener.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage, with the Rev. Dennis Hanson and the Rev. Roy Ott, officiating. Interment will be in the Osage Cemetery with military rites by the Osage American Legion Post 278.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage with the family receiving friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services on Friday at the church.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Folkers, of Osage; daughter, Anna DeKruif and her husband, James, of Cedar Rapids, and son, Cameron; one son, Eric Folkers and his fiancee, JoAnn Kreger, of West Des Moines, and children, Steven, Andrew, Jeremy, and Alyssa; his mother, Lucille Folkers, of Allison; two sisters, Colette Chase and her husband, Charles, of St. Louis, Mo., and Sharon Richards and her husband, Ron, of Fairbanks, Alaska.
He was preceded in death by his father, Erwin Folkers.
