DUANE D. WALK
Duane D. Walk, 56, formerly of Charles City and OSage, Iowa, died on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001, at his home at 721 Webster Lane S.E., Rochester, Minn.
His funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Johns Lutheran Church, Charles City, with the Rev. Dennis Niezwaag officiating. A prayer service will be held today at 4:30 p.m. at Macken Funeral Home, 1105 12th St. S.E., Rochester, Minn., with the Rev. Sherman Coltvet officiating.
Visitation will be today from 4 to 8 p.m. at Macken Funeral Home and Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St. in Charles City.
The family suggests memorials to Seasons Hospice, Rochester, Minn.; Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Rochester, Minn., or St. Johns Lutheran Church, Charles City.
Duane D. Walk was born Aug. 5, 1945, in Mason City. He attended school in Little Cedar, Iowa and graduated from Osage High School in 1963. He was employed by Osage Lumber, Osage, Iowa. On May 2, 1965, he married his wife, Carolyn, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Osage. In 1967 he started and established the fertilizer application facility for Tuloma products in Charles City. The family moved to Charles City in 1969 when Duane became a Standard Oil bulk fuel products agent. In 1976 he purchased the jobbership from Amoco. In 1983, he oversaw the razing of the old bulk plant and built the Walk-In Mini Mart convenience store in Charles City. He sold his businesses in 1989 and 1991 and went to work for Richard Motors Ltd. as a car salesman, sales manager and general manager. He followed with other sales ventures. Upon moving to Rochester, Minn., he was employed at Menards South until his retirement in August of 2000.
Duane was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Rochester, Minn. and St. Johns Lutheran Church, Charles City. He was also a former member of Elks Club, Charles City and a volunteer firefighter in both Osage and Charles City.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Walk, Rochester, Minn.; three children, Daren (Amy) Walk and Jim (Linda) Walk, Rochester, Minn.; Mark (Kim) Walk, Nashua, Iowa; one brother, Larry (Louise) Walk, Little Cedar, Iowa and four grandchildren, Alex and Cory Walk, Rochester, Minn.; Austin and Taylor Walk, Nashua.
