Marie Shankland

Marie E. Shankland, 85, a retired Osage attorney, died Friday, December 10, 1982, at Faith Home in Osage. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred heart Church in Osage with Reverend Jacob Hoth officiating. Burial was in the Osage Cemetery.

Champion Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Marie E. Shankland was born September 11, 1897 in New Haven. She graduated from St. Mary's Academy in New Haven on June 10, 1915.

She taught school before marrying Darwin Paulson, an attorney, under who she studied law. She passed the bar and was an attorney is Osage from 1936 until the time of her death.

Following the death of Darwin Paulson, she later married Harold Shankland on November 28, 1940.

She was a long time member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a member of the Iowa State Bar Association.

She is survived by her step-daughter, Mrs. Joyce McDevitt of Sacramento, California, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers and two sisters.
