Rites held for
Walter McCoy, 80Walter McCoy, age 80, died on Friday, February 26, 1982, at a Denver, Colorado, hospital.
Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 2, 1982, at the Osage Cemetery, with Reverend George Hope of the First Baptist Church, officiating.
He was born in Avoca and grew up in Knoxville. He was a graduate of Simpson College. Walt was a principal, teacher and coach at Story City, and was a coach at Weslyn College at Athens, Tennessee.
Julia Smith Willson and Walter McCoy, were united in marriage, June 30, 1928, in Athens, Tennessee.
They moved to Osage in 1928, were he owned and operated the McCoy Ice Cream Co. for 40 years.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church, a Mason, Schriner, Rotarian, and active in the Boy Scouts of America.
He served on the board of directors at Pioneer Federal Savings and Loan, Osage for 36 years. Walt also served on the Osage Municipal Light board and Sunny Brae Country Club board.
He is survived by one daughter, Janice Olson of Littleton, Colorado; one son Walter Jr. of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Mame Peterson of Omaha, Nebraska, and Mrs. Jean Covert of Baumount, California; and one brother, Barney, also of Baumount.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Julia, and two brothers.
