Hold Rites for
M. M. Mayer, 61,
at Stacyville

STACYVILLE, IOWA — Funeral rites were held Monday for a lifelong Stacyville resident, Michael M. Mayer, 61, who died in the Veterans Hospital, Des Moines, following a four-month illness.

Mr. Mayer was born in Stacyville in November 1894. He farmed in this area and operated an oil tank for several years before retiring in 1939 because of poor health.

He was a World War I veteran, serving in France with the Army engineers in 1918-19.

Survivors include his mother a eight brothers and sisters. They are Edward, Santa Barbara, Calif.; Ernest, Ray, Herbert, Ralph, Mrs. Art Heimer, Marcella and Leona, all of Stacyville.

A military funeral was held at the Visitation Church in Stacyville. The American Legion and Auxiliary escorted the body. Pallbearers were World War I soldiers.

Burial was in the Visitation Church Cemetery.
